Pre-Packaged Wafer and Juice Sets Are Back

I said some time ago that the pre-packaged wafer and juice sets were no longer available. Well, they are back on the market. Don't really know why, but that was then, this is now. Anyway, please consider the last post on that topic as a how-to do-it-yourself on pre-packaged juices and wafers. Although you can still do things that way, it's easier just to buy them now.

Now, another company, The Compak Companies, makes these things. Now it's called the Celebration Cup. As far as I can tell, they are the very same thing as the old ones made by Broadman-Holman (Remembrance). Here are the advantages to using this type of product at your service:

1. Hygiene, you no longer worry over the spread of germs along with communal use of the elements. Although some studies have shown that this is not normally an issue, there have been cases that have caused some alarm recently, such as the potential spread of hepatitis.
2. Portability, you can take these anywhere, to the sick, homes, nursing homes, hospitals, prisons, etc. where the need is greatest. There are people who can't won't for whatever reason go to church, so you have to get out there. Remember what Jesus said about this.
3. Logistics, this means that for large services, such as Easter, there are more worshipers that can be normally accommodated. This saves time during the service and clean-up.
4. Fewer volunteers, and less time are available these days. This means that there are fewer resources to gather elements, bake bread, serve, clean-up, and all of the necessary chores associated with this type of service.

Strategy: Ok, here's a good way to set up the service in order to get the best use out of this product. Have boxes of Celebration Cups ready at the doorway to your sanctuary. Have the ushers hand out one of the cups to each parishioner along with the service bulletin. That's pretty much it! Make sure there are trash cans available for parishioners to deposit the used containers into at the end of the service. Also, instruct ushers to hand out the appropriate number of cups to the parents of young children. This is to prevent younger ones from consuming the elements at an inappropriate time. Also, don't forget to serve your "extras", like the choir, music team, nursery and school workers. This product is an excellent way to do that, as well.
